PRACTICE EXERCISE ONE
Catalog the following exercises: 4A, 4B, 4C, and 4D (pp. 57-61) in the system of your choice.
Look at the title page and verso and enter as much information into the MARC fields as you can.
After you have entered as much information as you can, find professionally done MARC records using any of the other copy cataloging sources I've listed in the wiki: Copy Cataloging Sources.
There are answers on pp. 139-141 as well -- just not in the MARC format.
PRACTICE EXERCISE TWO (For 2015: Turn this in on Bb)
Let's get started with some exercises that are not in the book.
POST TO BLACKBOARD questions that you have about the exercises.
EXAMPLES from the chapter:
MAIN ENTRY (AUTHOR): Author creator: 100 $a
100 $a Pentlin, Floyd
100 $d 1946- (in this case it is an open date, the person hasn't died yet -- thank goodness!)
For names of people include the dates (birth and death). Look it up if the dates are not obvious. It gives another bit of information for the person searching the record. This information is found in $d.
ADDED ENTRY: Other people responsible for the work: 7XX
700 $a Pankhurst, E. Sylvia
700 $d 1882-1960
Establishing Proper Forms for Headings/Access Points: Note the different ways names are entered in the record:
